Judo and Jujutsu
Judo has its origin in the ancient art of Japanese Jujitsu. The translation of Jujitsu is "the gentle art" and the translation of Judo is "the way of gentleness". In 1880 Jigoro Kano began combining the best jujitsu techniques into one system. He believed that the techniques could be practiced as competitive sport if the more dangerous techniques were omitted. Kano established the first Judo school named the Kodokan. Brazilian JiuJitsu traces its origins back to Kodokan Judo. The techniques of the arts are similar. Judo teaches both throws and grapling techniques and its competition emphasis is on throws. Brazilian JuJitsu places its emphasis in grapling techniques. |
